Assess the existing emergency plan to ensure both the City and our key partners are prepared for any disasters. Collaborate with key stakeholders to create a strategic communication plan for public outreach during emergencies, especially in situations where technology may not be available. I will work towards adopting a proactive approach to be Missouri City ready.
Our first responders work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of our community. To support their success, we must provide them with the essential tools, including competitive pay, thorough training, the latest technology, suitable training facilities, and appropriate safety equipment. Your safety is my top priority. I am committed to supporting our Police and Fire to ensure our city remains the safest place to live.
With limited property available for development in Missouri City, we need to carefully evaluate land use to effectively balance the diverse needs of our community. By implementing a robust comprehensive plan and effective zoning strategies, we can attract the right kinds of developments, boost employment opportunities, foster sustainable growth, and ease the tax burden on our residents. Leveraging my experience in real estate, I am committed to providing visionary leadership to ensure that we create a vibrant, thriving community for all.
Having served on the Bond Committee, I understand firsthand that our infrastructure and mobility systems are currently lagging. As your Councilmember, I will prioritize the use of approved Bond funds to address our aging and congested streets in District C. This also involves a thorough review of our relationship with METRO.
Our city is renowned for its historic parks and trails, such as soon-to- be expanded Freedom Tree Park and the award-winning Edible Harbor Trail. These amenities significantly enhance our city’s charm and appeal. To attract and retain residents and businesses, we must further our beautification initiatives.
As your Councilmember, I will collaborate with the city, homeowners’ associations, Missouri City Green, and other stakeholders to further improve our city’s appearance, elevating the quality of life for all residents and making Missouri City an even more vibrant and enjoyable place to live.
Most of District C in Sienna is new to Missouri City elections. My name is Joanna Ouderkirk and I am running for Missouri City, City Council for District C. After carefully doing my homework, I believe that I am best among my opponents to represent the needs of District C residents in Sienna. Please do not take city elections for granted. Your city representative is critical to the smooth operation of city functions such as public safety, garbage service, sidewalk repair and infrastructure, economic development and beautification.
Sienna is a unique area of our city and it comes with its own unique set of needs and concerns. As more of Sienna is added to Missouri City through annexation and new homes, we need to focus on integrating Sienna residents into the everyday operations and communications from the city. We want SIenna to stay the beautiful place it is to live now and only make it better. We must communicate with our Sienna residents and you need to be well informed of items of importance to you and your neighborhoods. I know that Sienna can be just as #MCTXProud as I am, if the right person is representing you!
Mobility and infrastructure in Sienna is one of the biggest challenges that Sienna residents face. I vow to work together with the city, county and developer to ensure that Sienna Parkway traffic woes are addressed. From Hwy 6, all the way to 521, Sienna residents deserve better. We need to examine Sienna infrastructure and address potholes and sidewalks.
Sienna Residents deserve to have open dialog and town hall meetings. With the current traffic situation, it can be almost impossible for a Sienna resident to get to a city council meeting in less than an hour. We need to bring the city to Sienna so that we can have an open flow of communication. Sienna also needs to be a part of my proposed emergency communication plan to be able to get information to Sienna residents when disaster strikes and technology is limited.
In all matters, citizens expect fair and transparent governance. I will be honest and forthcoming with regards to issues that impact Sienna and Missouri CIty.
Like other parts of the city, public safety is a concern of Sienna residents. Police visibility, speeding and pedestrian safety are critical to address in Sienna. As we allocate more resources to our police, we need to examine the number of patrols allocated to south HWY 6 and the Sienna.area.
We need to do a comprehensive study of Sienna sidewalks so that residents can see the same sidewalk replacement benefits that we have been providing in other areas of Missouri City and District C. We have an award winning Fire Department and we will continue to provide excellent fire services to Sienna. We need to partner with the HOAs to bring some of the excellent benefits that our Parks and Recreation Department and Fire and Police outreach provide.
